LED LIGHTING

Planning an LED lighting upgrade: brightness, color, and controls

Choose LED lighting around the room and the people using it, not just the bulb wattage.

Start with the tasks in the room

List what works today and what does not. A kitchen work surface, a desk, and a living-room seating area need different kinds of attention. Bring photos and point out shadows, glare, or places where you regularly need an extra lamp. This gives the LED installation discussion a practical starting point.

Compare light output and appearance

Watts describe power use; lumens describe light output. Color temperature describes the appearance of the light, while color rendering concerns how objects look under it. These are separate choices. Compare samples in your actual space where possible, especially when matching fixtures or finishes.

Plan dimming with the equipment

Confirm that the proposed LED lamp or fixture and its control are compatible. Some LEDs maintain their color as they dim; others are designed to become warmer. Explain the effect you want and how low you expect the lights to dim before products are selected.

Consider the complete installation

A different bulb is not always the right answer to a poorly placed fixture. Discuss layout, beam direction, glare, and access for maintenance alongside efficiency. Ask whether the proposal reuses existing fixtures, replaces them, or changes their positions so the estimate is easy to understand.

Bring a clear brief

Tell us which rooms are involved, how they are used, what controls you want, and whether the work is part of a larger remodel. There is no single savings percentage or fixture specification that fits every project. We can discuss the installation around the space you actually have.
